‘2nd GR8! Women Awards – Middle East (Dubai)’
‘The GR8! Women Awards’, an initiative of the GR8! TV Magazine, is the only exclusive platform that honours Women Achievers from various walks of life like, Art, Literature, Corporate Management, Medicine & Healthcare, Social Services, Cinema, Television et al.
Since 11 years it has celebrated the glory of Indian Womanhood and last year it went global, with the ‘GR8! Women Awards – Middle East’ that was held in Dubai. Now, on the 7th March, 2012, it touched the second milepost of its global interface at a ceremony of rare razzle-dazzle held at Atlantis, Dubai.
In the event, distinguished women from UAE, Saudi Arabia, Nairobi etc. were conferred the GR8! Honours with the crème-da-la-crème of the Dubai upper-crust in attendance.
Those decorated with the GR8! honours at the ceremony included Royalty like Her Highness Sheikha Dr. Hind Al Qassimi, Her Excellency Mohtarma Sarah Shuhail, besides others who have given a sterling account of themselves in their chosen fields, like Maria Conceicao (Humanitarian), Bushra Rozza (Women’s Rights), Seema Ved (Entrepreneurship), Rosemin Manji (Image Consultancy), Nashma Al Ruwaini (Media), Clarita De Quiroz (Music) and others of their eminent ilk.
The ceremony also had an Indian touch as Indian Cinema, Music etc. are totally intertwined with those parts. In this vein, honours were conferred upon Asha Parekh (GR8! Golden Laurel), Sushmita Sen (Supporting a Girl-child) and the current sensation of Indian screen, Vidya Balan (Cinema).
The Evening was also a platform for ‘beti’ a movement against female foeticide and an awareness campaign vis-à-vis Breast Cancer.
Said Shashi Ranjan Publisher, GR8! – ‘The Middle-East chapter of the GR8! Women Awards’ has come into high pre-eminence like its original in India. Today, we have the support & goodwill of a lot of illustrious people from all walks of life here and that humbles us no end. We would continue with our endeavour to celebrate the glory of Womanhood all across the globe and more chapters of the ‘GR8! Women Awards’ in Europe, US etc. are shortly to follow!’
Elaborating further, Anu Ranjan, Editor, GR8! and the driving force behind the ‘beti’ movement, said – ‘These Awards have filled a long-due lacuna for a platform that exclusively honours Women Achievers. In that respect, it is one of a kind endeavour and it decade long run in India as well as the second humongous success for its global outing in Dubai only endorses our urge to accord recognition to the women of substance. It is a GR8! pilgrimage and we would never stop in pursuing it!’
