The Indian Television Academy » Academy Milestone

The Launch:
The air pulsated with excitement. There was a throbbing expectation in the atmosphere. It was the 18th July, 2001 … and as the evening lights started studding the plush precincts of the Gateway of India, something dawned in the Crystal room of The Taj Hotel . Therein, The Indian Television Academy was launched by Honourable Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister, Maharastra.

It was the dawn of certain Dreams… the Dreams that pertained to the Indian Television. Television, in India, has burgeoned forth to massive proportions as an Industry. Still, its working patterns have left much to be desired. Much can be found amiss in its operative ethos, here.

And those Dreams aspired to streamline all of that. They were about garnering and galvanising   the entire workforce of the Indian Television under one umbrella – The Indian Television Academy. Envisioned by Anu and Shashi Ranjan, with their wealth of experience in the Medium, the Academy was planned as a conduit for all the disparate elements of the Industry like Software, Hardware & Broadcasting, and threading them together into a single cohesive whole.

To achieve that, it was necessary to create a pool of wisdom to guide and govern the journey of the Academy towards the realisation of these lofty aims and aspirations. Hence, great care was taken to handpick for its Governing Body, luminaries of the medium and related fields, who are endowed with keen insight and discerning vision.

The Road Ahead
In spite of having achieved so much in its incipient year, the ITA has not been the one to rest on its laurels. Our pursuits continue indefatigably towards instilling better working ethos and a deep sense of cohesiveness in Indian Television. We would also be relentless in our endeavours to put it at par with very best, in the world.

Global Interface:
We really feel that Indian TV can make inroads globally. Today, when the overseas market has become so very hot for our feature films – why cannot it be the same for our TV software, also? After all, our USP's are the same i.e. a strong emotional content, besides underscoring of the family values. We have already started our efforts to create an interface with foreign networks, apprising them of the scale and sweep of Indian Television.
