Ok folks, it’s that time of
the year again…
when loads of lovely ladies come together & the best of the lot are acknowledged & honoured for the scores of contributions they have been making for the betterment of our country & our lives… yes, I’m talking about The annual Kelvinator GR8! Women Awards, now in it’s 9th year! The nitty-gritty’s of the event & lots about these ladies will be covered in our next issue so do look out for it. Also, do not forget to watch it on SONY TV, on International Women’s day, March 8th, at 8 p.m. sharp.
Other stuff to look forward to this month is of course the IPL tournament. It’s scheduled to start on March 12th and in the midst of all the insecurity & terror threats we’re hoping it does and all goes without incident. Let’s hope all the players from all the countries show up (my guess is that irrespective of their countries’ issuing travel alerts most will… the lure is too much!) and let’s hope the radical rebels don’t show up. Either ways, I’m not going near any stadium, I’m watching every match on TV! Which reminds me, I heard most news channels were considering boycotting the IPL - no telecasts or news about any of the matches - because apparently Mr Lalit Modi & their TV partners are demanding way too much to provide the news channels with footage. I wonder if that controversy has been sorted out! We’ll just have to wait & see.
Also, with the release of “My name is Khan”, thankfully the news channels, the police, the political parties and the government can go back to doing their actual jobs! We had the entire MNIK gang all over the channels, promoting the film, day in & day out, and then came the hullabaloo created by the Shiv Sena… obviously and conveniently, SRK was dragged it on to garner and ensure some more publicity for the SS but worked very well for the film..!
The news channels sure do go overboard with reporting of most issues… In fact, the way they went on with this issue, blowing it so way out of proportion, our government & police forces were eventually required to intervene and sort it out… so much so that perhaps what the Thackerays had to say about the Pune blast being a consequence of the security forces having their attention elsewhere might just have some element of truth in it. So many innocent, young people lost their lives, families were destroyed, property was destroyed and all for no reason. Terrible..really terrible watching the families and parents of those innocent youngsters wanting to know ..”what did our children do to deserve this end..”
And, on that note I’m going you bid you farewell for now… but before I do, a quick happy Holi to you all… may it be as colourful as ever! See you again, same place, same time, next month!
