Tsunami, Rehab and You
The Indian Television Academy (ITA) held a star-studded charity show for Tsunami victims named “Tsunami Rehab & U” (TRU) with the participation of the entire television industry on Monday, 28th March at NCPA. A core committee comprising of Anu Ranjan, Shashi Ranjan, Smriti Irani, Rohit Roy, Ashok Pandit, Rakesh Bedi and Kunika helped organize the event.
The proceeds from this show were utilized in a rehabilitation programme for those badly affected by the tsunami and to ensure livelihood for them along with creating schools, dispensaries and other infrastructure. A delegation of the TV industry along with some stars of the regional and southern TV industry will visit the areas on a regular basis to help them emotionally, financially and get them back on their feet.
The programme saw the entire television industry participate for this noble cause. There were item song performances by Sangeeta Ghosh, Jasweet Kaur, Nigar Khan and Shama Sikandar. Actresses Narayani Shastri, Roopali Ganguly & Tarana danced to the tunes of Roop & Sunali Rathod’s popular song “Kesariya”. There was also a dance tribute to the heroes from the swinging ‘60’s & ‘70’s performed by Hussain, Anand Suryavanshi, Chaitanya, Dilip Thadeshwar, Rohit Roy and Manav Gohil. Romantic duets by Shraddha Nigam, Pooja Ghai, Manoj, Sanjit Bedi, Rahil Azam & Prachim marked the evening show, which was telecast on Sony.
The entire television industry came together and devoted their time, energy and efforts towards this humble cause. People in the television industry have very hectic schedule with most of them working round the clock, seven days a week. Despite these constraints their commitment to the cause was such that everyone was rehearsing till midnight for days together to make the show a success.
